NZ Warrant of Fitness – Parts Checklist
Page content
Is Your Vehicle Ready for a WoF?
New Zealand's warrant of fitness (WoF) inspection checks that your light vehicle meets minimum safety standards set by the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA). With changes to light-vehicle inspection requirements taking effect 1 November 2026, it's a good time to check your vehicle over and replace any worn or failing parts before your next inspection.
⚠️ Important: This page is informational only. Final WoF requirements depend on your vehicle's class, age, and the timing of your inspection. Always refer to the NZTA official WoF guidance or consult a licensed vehicle inspector (LVI) for your specific vehicle.
🔧 Common WoF Inspection Areas – Parts to Check
1. Braking System
Inspectors check that brakes are effective, balanced, and in safe working condition. Worn or leaking brake components are a common WoF failure point.
Parts commonly inspected include: brake pads and shoes, brake master cylinders, brake hoses and lines, brake calipers, ABS wheel speed sensors, and parking brake cables.
Fitment reminder: Always confirm the part suits your specific make, model, year, and drivetrain before purchasing. Check product listings for vehicle compatibility details.

🚗 Fitment & Compatibility Reminder
New Zealand's vehicle fleet includes a wide range of makes, models, and build years — many of which are Japanese domestic market (JDM) imports. When selecting parts:
- Always match by make, model, year, engine code, and variant (e.g., 4WD vs 2WD, SR5 vs base)
- JDM-spec vehicles may have different part numbers to Australian or European-spec equivalents
- Check the product listing for OEM part numbers if you're unsure
- When in doubt, contact our team — we're happy to help confirm compatibility
